Well, I'll be danged. A short time ago I found myself in a dilemma. To watch one DVD I now need four remotes. Yes four. Universal remotes aren't all they're cracked up to be. So you can imagine the small initial chuckle I got when Click first presented itself. Adam Sandler gets a remote that does everything for him. Everything.
It's a clever idea, but the movie just never really took off for me -- even if it's heart was in the right place and Sandler proved there's more to humour than a good fart joke. You see, there's predictable movies and then there's the ones where you figure out exact jokes and lines several minutes before they happen. Click is one such film. Despite some jokes that really hit and some heart-tugging bits, it's too easy to see the end in the beginning as it sticks to its comedy-drama too tightly. Had it gone in a more sci-fi direction, there would have likely been more room for play and originality.
Video: How's it look?
Originally mastered in high definition, I've got absolutely no complaints about the great anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen picture.
Audio: How's it sound?
Like the picture, the sound is equally great. Audio is offered in both English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround.
Extras: What additional goodies are included?
- French and English subtitles.
- Adam Sandler, director Frank Coraci, writer Steve Koren, executive producer Tim Herlihy provide a lively audio commentary.
- A quartet of deleted scenes
- Six featurettes than run anywhere from a couple to five minutes each:
- "Make Me Old and Fat" looks at astounding make-up designs used in the film.
- "FX of Click" explores some of the more subtle visual tricks used in the movie.
- "Design My Universe" creates a believable near-future used.
- The strangest of the lot is "Humping Dogs" – a short bit on how they made the canines in the movie – well – hump.
- "Director's Take" highlights director Frank Coraci.
- Adam Sandler runs around the set in a fat suit in "Fine Cookin".
- Previews for Stranger Than Fiction, The Da Vinci Code, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, The Benchwarmers, 50 First Dates, The Pursuit of Happyness, Casino Royale, Spider-Man 3, The Holiday and Open Season.
Closing Thoughts
The Special Edition DVD release of Click is a simple matter of an average film with a better-than-average collection. It's not a classic "Sandler flick" but one that is a simple pleasure.
