Synopsis:

The Killers are not only the finest band ever to come from the world's gambling kingdom, Las Vegas, they are also one of the finest bands on the planet today. And as they regularly renew their sound and heighten their rank amongst fan's, they move closer and closer to the holy grail of worldwide mega-stardom. The Killers: Leaving Las Vegas is a documentary film about this extraordinary group. Using interviews with those closest to the them, performance footage, numerous obscure photographs (many from private collections), location shoots and a host of other features, this program is both uniquely informative and downright entertaining, and is certain to become the benchmark work on this magnificent band.

In today's world of IPOD singles, genre-specific countdowns and generic radio playlists, The Killers have pulled off a rare feat -- they've become more than one-hit wonders. Apparently that's enough to get a DVD bio documentary. The Killers: Leaving Las Vegas explores how the band came together and rose to fame.

The documentary is a 60-minute compilation of primarily interviews with local radio personalities, friends and old band mates. The interviews are somewhat revealing in creating a backdrop for The Killers, however there's little to nothing from the band themselves. So while you have all these people talking about the influences on The Killers and their unique sound, you don't get to hear any of it. This makes the documentary accessible largely to big fans yet the information covered is pretty basic stuff.

Video: How's it look?
Video can really only be as good as its source material. This one's pretty bad. The interviews are blurry and fairly low-quality digital. Some of the archival footage is even worse.

Audio: How's it sound?
The audio is in a bland stereo mix. Nothing exciting in this department.

Extras: What additional goodies are included?

  • Quiz.
  • Discography listing.

Closing Thoughts
Although The Killers: Leaving Las Vegas is a DVD, it feels more like a superficial magazine article in a mainstream magazine. Sure, there's some info to be taken from it but it's simply not personal enough to the band it focuses on.
