Synopsis:

Felon John Lyshitski has figured out the best way to get revenge on the now-dead judge who sent him to jail: watch the official's obnoxious son, Nelson Biederman IV, survive the clink. John strikes gold when Nelson is wrongly convicted of a crime and sent to the pen he used to call home. He gleefully gets sent back to become Nelson's cellmate and to ensure that his new buddy gets the "full treatment." Let the games begin. Lesson #1: the joint's a scary place, so you better make friends fast. Right away, Nelson offends the wrong cons and is sold--by John--to Barry for prison snuggling. But just as revenge starts tasting sweet, Nelson becomes Big Man in the Big House and turns the tables on John--changing the rules of his insane game.

The short and the sweet of it: Let's Go to Prison is one of the worst pieces of Hollywood garbage I have ever seen. It brings together every jail joke cliché and tosses it together into one mean-spirited collection. There's not one original gag here or even a clever spin on the familiar. It's pretty much, fear the soap, fear the gay inmates and fear your every meal. Oh yeah, there's the skinhead Nazis too. And a mean prison warden.

Adding to pain is the fact that the scant plot that resides in the film is resolved about 20 minutes in when Lyshitski (ha, ha -- there's a cuss word in that boy's name) gets his revenge. The remaining hour is dedicated to lame, crude humour that offers nothing new whatsoever.

Video: How's it look?
The movie itself looks solid enough, although the "introduction" suffers from very low resolution. The film is shown in anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1 aspect ratio).

Audio: How's it sound?
Sound is in both English and French Dolby Digital 5.1. The mix is just fine considering the film.

Extras: What additional goodies are included?

  • Both the theatrical R-rated version of the film and a new "unrated" cut.
  • An alternate ending.
  • Two deleted and extended scenes.
  • Six-minute soundtrack session with the film's composer Alan Elliott.
  • English, Spanish and Frech subtitles.

Closing Thoughts
Being a fan of Will Arnett's work on "Arrested Development" part of me held out hope that something funny would come of Let's Go to Prison. It was futile. This movie is downright bad and a scant collection of extras make this DVD downright forgettable.
