Synopsis:

Underachieving misfits Pete and Lanny are wannabe "gangsta rappers," who find the constraints of suburbia stifling to their artistic goals. Faced with the obstacle of needing "ten large" to finance a studio recording session, the bros. resort to an all-night crime spree that nets them a ten thousand dollar reward for their own crimes, thanks to a bizarre twist of fate.

I have to admit that when I saw the cover, and read the synopsis, for this film, I rolled my eyes and stalled at watching & reviewing it - it looked so stinky that I didn't want to touch it with a 10-foot pole. However, I finally gave in and threw it into my DVD player, fully expecting to zip through using the "next chapter" button like a madman... and much to my surprise, I got into the film and actually enjoyed it!

Yes, it is very much a low-budget, independent comedy (which are usually far more often a "miss" than a "hit"), but it just seems to ooze sincerity somehow, like everyone involved took it very seriously and put their all into it, even given the crazy subject matter. Plus, somehow the producers got such notable (b-celebrity) names such as Shaq, Vanilla Ice and Joey Fatone involved, which means this film may not be the slickest, high-budget Hollywood production, but it's also not the funded-out-of-pocket, shot-on-DV type of indie movie that works for zombies, but not for comedies.

Bottom line: it's just a light-hearted, curse-word-laden comedic romp that's just plain fun to watch. And that's a-okay by me.

Video: How's it look?
Presented in an anamorphic 16x9 widescreen transfer, the movie looks clean & sharp throughout, despite its low(ish).

Audio: How's it sound?
The Dolby 2.0 stereo mix is decent, but not great, with a bit of "tininess" detectable throught the film. Somehow, though, it seems to add to the whole "documentary" vibe of this film, so there you go.

Extras: What additional goodies are included?

  • stills gallery
  • music gallery
  • trailers

Closing Thoughts
Surprisingly fun low-budget indie comedy + a few extras = recommended for some very light, but very fun, viewing
