Not a Movie Snob - POTW: The Beaver

Poster of the Week: The Beaver

Okay, I must admit, part of what attracted me to this poster was the whole art imitating life thing going on. It would surprise no one I'm sure, with all his personal warfare all over the airwaves, to find Mel Gibson sitting on a step like the one in the picture, his head hung low in defeat and burden. What you might not find, however, is the beaver puppet fastened snugly on his hand, sitting proudly next to him, comforting him. No, as crazy as some (or perhaps most) people think Mel is these days, the beaver has strictly to do with this new movie, directed by Jody Foster, starring Mel as a depressed man who finds renewed life when his personality splits and he begins to let this beaver do all the talking for him.

The trailer looks great, and the poster is a perfect representation of it. Say what you will about Mel's personal life and his issues with relationships, but he's a damn fine actor (as is Jodie Foster) and I can't wait to see this.

When we will get to see it seems to be anyone's guess at this point as the film's been completed and ready to go for months now but has been shelved due to all the negative publicity concerning Mel's personal life, which leads me to the final, somewhat humorous aspect of the poster. At the very bottom it says 'coming soon.' What it should say is 'coming as soon as you all forget about Mel being a dick to his girlfriend.' Doesn't have the same ring though I guess.
