CSIF and Spring Street Films are pleased to present a free public screening and reception for the Herland Video Production Mentorship for Women. Made possible by a project grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, five female filmmakers have spent the past five months working intensively with mentors to write, produce, shoot and edit their own short film. Entering the program with previous industry experience, these mid-level professionals take their practice to the next level with diverse stories and innovative perspectives.

This event is FREE, but make sure to reserve your tickets via Theatre Junction GRAND's box office

Guest Speaker: Michelle Wong
With more than 25 years in the film and television industry, Michelle Wong brings an unparalleled breadth and depth of production and media arts to the film and television community.

Film Program:
Mallory Memphis | Dir. Paige K Boudreau
Mallory Memphis is a childhood urban legend come to life. It explores themes of beliefs and peer pressure told by an unreliable narrator. You will fall in love with Mallory and her group of rag-tag friends as they spark nostalgic conversation and reminiscing.

Family Photo | Dir. Gillian McKercher
Family Photo is a snapshot of Sunday dinner Chinese-Canadian style. Seen through the eyes of ten-year-old Brianna, "Family Photo" presents the mini triumphs, frustrations, and interactions that define everyday life. At once nostalgic and modern, Family Photo shows that the extraordinary can live inside the ordinary.

Enough | Dir. Taouba Khelifa
Since when did we start believing we were not enough? Enter the inner thoughts of four women, as they weave a private and intimate narrative of their fears, doubts, and worries, in this short poetic documentary.

The Perfect Man | Dir. Vicki Van Chau
In the spur of the moment, a young woman has to figure out the perfect thing to say, when she has a serendipitous encounter with a stranger she believes is the perfect man for her.

Sweet Night | Dir. Jessie Short
Andy is a young Métis woman living in a big city. When a friend invites Andy to accompany her to a large city park where she introduces Andy to sweet grass, it sparks a night of surprising exploration and self-discovery, ultimately reconnecting Andy with her Indigenous roots.

A short Q & A with filmmakers, and reception with drinks and appies at Workshop kitchen+culture Bar to follow the program
