justREEL is a bi-monthly feature length documentary series. Now in its twelveth year, this series runs from September to May.

Synopsis:  Philosopher Sira Abenoza believes that most conflicts in society are due to a lack of dialogue. After putting her Socratic dialogue method into practice in Spain and Central America, she travels to Northern Ireland to sit at a table with former members and sympathizers of the IRA, former members and sympathizers of Unionist paramilitary groups, a former British soldier, and a former policeman. Together they set out on an exercise in dialogue which, in the words of participants, "is a path towards the unknown" and "the only way to build peace." In Dialogue will inspire and inform all those committed to creating a path of truth and reconciliation.

Conversation Leaders:

Josh Goldstein is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary. He teaches and researches in the history of Western political philosophy, particularly the nature of freedom and the good life, and sexual ethics. He regularly employs the spirit of the Socratic method in the classroom.

Pablo Policzer is an Associate Professor of Political Science and the Director of the Latin American Research Centre at the University of Calgary. A Chilean by birth, his work specializes in Latin American Politics, with a special interest in the overlaps between democracy and authoritarianism, and between human rights and security issues broadly understood.

Glenn Wilkinson is a media and cultural historian at the University of Calgary looking at war and the military. He received his PhD in 1992 from the University of Lancaster examining the depictions and images of war in Edwardian newspapers, 1899-1914. Currently, Glenn is interested in examining post-war British war films from 1945-1960. He has taken students to Ireland for the last three years teaching about Irish cinema and on risings, rebellions, and revolutions. Lastly, Glenn has a weakness for maps and local craft beer.
