The Intertribal Series is a musical documentary that showcases the talent and stories of four musicians from the Treaty 7 area.

THIS IS A FREE EVENT!

Featured Artists include: Armond Duck Chief, an exuberant and jovial cowboy country singer. Bebe Buckskin, a free-spirited native Janis Joplin type. Darcy Turning Rope, a powwow singer with a storied heritage in traditional Blackfoot singing and drumming. Olivia Tailfeathers, an elder who blends contemporary hymns with traditional drumming and Blackfoot words. The Intertribal Series offers a look into the Indigenous musicians of today.

Trevor Solway is Blackfoot from Siksika Nation located east of Calgary. His Blackfoot name is Sinakson, which translates to Writer; the name was his great, great grandfather’s name, Samuel Solway. Trevor comes from a long line of ranchers and spent most of his childhood on his grandparents ranch. Going against the grains he decided to pursue a career in the media field.

Storytelling has always been a passion of his and in 2012 he moved to North Vancouver to attend Capilano University taking the Independent Indigenous Digital Filmmaking program. He has since come home to Calgary and completed his Bachelor of Communications degree with a major in Journalism in the spring of 2017.

Trevor has made numerous documentaries and narrative films since beginning his career 5 years ago. In 2014 as a part of Canada Bridges, he created and facilitated Film Camps for youth on his reserve. Since then he has lead 7 more film camps over the span of 4 years in Siksika, Morley and Calgary.

In 2016, Trevor directed a comedic short titled Indian Giver as apart of the ImagineNATIVE & CSIF mentorship program which screened at ImagineNATIVE in Toronto, LA Skins Fest in Hollywood, Native Film Fest in Palm Springs, Arizona International Film Fest, Talking Stick Festival in Vancouver, Calgary International Film Festival and most recently the American Indian Film Fest in San Francisco, California American Indian Film Festival. Indian Giver is also available on Amazon Prime.

Trevor’s recent documentary TRENCH screened at ImagineNATIVE on October 22, 2017 in Toronto and LA Skins Fest in November 2017.

He believes Indigenous people are gifted with the craft of storytelling and should use it for the betterment of the people. Trevor wants to be a hybrid journalist and filmmaker who is proficient in everything videography, photography, writing and graphic design.

This event takes place on Treaty 7 Territory. We are grateful to be on the traditional territory of the Blackfoot, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai. Treaty 7 is also home to the Tsuut’ina, the Stoney Nakoda and Métis Nation of Alberta (Region III).
