Saturday MASS continues with Richard Linklater's philosophically rotoscoped animation, WAKING LIFE. An exploration of the nature of reality and meaning of life, packed with thought-provoking conversations and profound insight, Linklater's film is a visual and intellectual treat. Previously known for indie hits like Slacker, Dazed & Confused and Before Sunrise, Waking Life was Linklater's first foray into animation—he'd return to the genre with the Philip K. Dick adaptation A Scanner Darkly. Winner of the National Society of Film Critics award for "Best Experimental Film", the New York Film Critics Circle award for "Best Animated Film", and the "CinemAvvenire" award at the Venice Film Festival for "Best Film", it's a unique animated film from one of American cinema's modern masters.
