Bike-In Cinema!: Ahomapénî; Relations and Rez Dogs

Thursday, August 29, 2019 @ 9:00 PM
Sunalta Community Centre
- 1627 10 Ave SW, Calgary, AB
FREE

On the eve of a new moon, join CSIF - The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, TRUCK Contemporary Art, and the Stoney Nakoda AV Club for a night of local cinema at the park outside Sunalta Community Hall (1627 10 Ave SW).

At sundown, we will be screening a selection of shorts by the Stoney Nakoda AV Club, followed by the feature film Ahomapénî: Relations and Rez Dogs. This film seeks to illuminate the different ways people think about human-animal relationships on reserves and in settler dominated spaces. This documentary dispels myths, and delves into areas where stereotypes and assumptions create contribute to challenges for both people and animals living on reserve.

This event is FREE and open to all members of the public; bike in, chill out, and bring your dogs! In the case of rain, this screening will be moved inside to CSIF.

This event takes place on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.

TRUCK Contemporary Art in Calgary is dedicated to creating safe and inclusive spaces for participating in contemporary art. TRUCK programming is free to attend and open to all.

The Nakoda AV Club is a collective, a group of people who gather to support each other’s artistic endeavors. We believe in the ability of people to accomplish their goals, no matter what they may be, through hard work, dedication, and support.

CSIF acknowledges and honours the fundamental value and dignity of all individuals. We aim to be an environment where anyone can have access to a variety of resources (workshops, grants, equipment) to tell their unique story through film.
