Hosted by the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine, Science in the Cinema brings together science and popular culture in a fun and engaging way.

On Wednesday, September 18 Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement, Local and Global, will present Girl Rising. Following the film, Jennifer Hatfield, the former Associate Dean of Global Health at the University of Calgary will discuss the barriers that prevent girls from obtaining an education, as well as the many positive effects that come from providing them with opportunities to learn.

About the film:
Girl Rising travels the globe to meet nine unforgettable girls, striving beyond circumstance and overcoming nearly insurmountable odds to achieve their dreams. Their stories reflect their struggles to overcome societal or cultural barriers. Following the movie’s release a global movement by the same name was established to promote and further the education of girls around the world.
