Franklin’s Lost Ships is a documentary film that traces the thrilling and historic discovery of Sir John Franklin’s HMS Erebus, a ship that has been at the centre of one of the greatest of all maritime mysteries.

In August 2014, led by Parks Canada, in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Government of Nunavut and other public agencies, the RCGS joined private partners including the Arctic Research Foundation in the search for Franklin’s lost ships. Against all odds, Erebus – Franklin’s flagship - was found in near-perfect condition, resting on the sea- floor, in just eleven metres of water. Exclusive underwater footage shows the amazing moment as Parks’ divers, including Calgary’s Ryan Harris, approached the wreck and were the first to lay eyes on the ship in more than 150 years.

The film screening in Calgary will be followed by a panel discussion featuring special guests involved with the expedition including a key Parks Canada representative, John Geiger, RCGS CEO and co-author of Frozen in Time: The Fate of the Franklin Expedition; Louie Kamookak, Inuit historian whose research aided in the search for Erebus, Andrew Prossin, Managing Director of One Ocean Expeditions and additional partners from the 2014 Victoria Strait expedition.

Calgarians are getting the first peek at the film and this is a timely event as researchers are revisiting the wreckage this April. There is a winter dive to Erebus planned next month where Parks Canada and Royal Canadian Navy divers will join together for Operation NUNALIVUT to conduct approximately 11 days of intense ice diving and underwater archaeology.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at door. VIP Tickets are $100 (includes access to private VIP reception at 6:30pm in lobby).
