The Dead rise again
Over the last couple years you have no doubt noticed the little bit of
a comeback in the zombie movie, starting with Resident Evil (Which was
actually good in comparison to the House of the Dead, directed by the
new Ed Wood, Ewe Boll) and following through with 28 days later (not
bad, but from what director Danny Boyle has said not a zombie movie,
though it is) and finally coming to the best one so far Shaun of the
Dead. Now some of these have been not bad, the dawn of the dead remake
was ok, and some of been new classics, like the already mentioned Shaun
of the dead. But now the greatest master of the genre, the inventor of
it in fact is coming back to show all these hip new youngsters what a
zombie movies all about. I am of course talking about the true master
of horror, George A Romero. Having been anticipating this movie for
about 2 years now, and having just seen the trailer, I can honestly say
this will be his greatest achievement yet. As you can no dealt tell I
am a huge admirer of his previous works, especially Dawn of the Dead, a
zombie movie with a message, who could grow tired of that concept. I
mean the new one was a good action movie and had some cheap thrills,
but nobody can deal with the zombie apocalypse by making you fear it,
laugh at it, and think about the world we live in today like Romero.
The new movie missed the point of the original and ironically was made
for pure consumerism itself. But anyway the new one titled Land of the
Dead (Breaking away from his day times motif and shaking off the
original thought name of dusk of the dead) George Romero has brought
with him John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper (whose an awesome actor, for an
example see Blue Velvet, but hasn't gotten much work lately) and Asia
Argentino (The daughter of the greatest Italian horror director ever,
Dario Argentino) and boy are they ready to kick some ass. Now plot has
been pretty hush hush but form what I've herd, zombies have taken over
the earth, now the remaining humans hide in a walled city, while the
rich live high above the poor scrounge around in the streets, the rich
live high up in a skyscraper. Meanwhile one group of armed militia
travels around in a beefed up SUV named dead reckoning and blows the
hell out of zombies. Basically its been called Road Warrior meets Dawn
of the Dead. So I urge everybody to shelve over the $10.95 or whatever
a ticket costs to see this, as it will be an instant horror classic. I
mean common Dennis Hopper and George Romero teamed up alone should be
enough to get u to the theaters, but hey people don't always do what
they should. DO IT!
