"X-Men: First Class" follows the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

Fantastic film! I was not a fan of X1-3, but liked the Wolverine one. X-Men: First Class was great! Lots of fun, pretty cool story. I really liked that Kevin Bacon was so much like a 60's Bond villain. I also really enjoyed the amount of Magneto in the movie, it made a really good story and a very exciting one! I would definitely go see this again. Best of the series!

Genre: CBM/Action/Fantasy (CBM = ComicBookMovie) Running Time: 132mins Cast: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Rose Bryne, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones Director: Matthew Vaughn Writer(s): Ashley Miller, Zack Stentz, Jane Goldman, Matthew Vaughn, Sheldon Turner, Bryan Singer Where do i begin with this movie? Well how about the begining. From the time X-Men was conceived way back when, they have been the desire of every CBG (Comic Book Geek) to see live and on the big screen , while the first three X-Men movies did well as far as dollar signs go, they lacked the heart of X-men. Bryan Singer who directed the first and second one took the idea and created his own story. The characters had no life, it did not follow any continuity and he changed the costumes, which had been proven by his poor Superman: Returns and fan response is a no-no. The X-Men trilliogy stand on their own and rightly so, it is a blemish on what now is a standard in producing, making and directing CBM’s as proven by Marvel taking over their own films. With the exception of Spiderman and X-Men because Sony/Fox has the rights. Matthew Vaughn takes a very aggressive story and turns it into something possible, surreal and human. Although you must have an open mind because the characters introduced are not the first class of X-Men as in the comics, they turn out to be well choosen for this made up origin story of the team. I have been a fan of Mathew’s since his directorial debut of Layer Cake ( a must see), although his next two films (Stardust and Kick-ass) were something to be forgotten. But I to forgot, how good of a director he really is, and the cast infront of him is top notch. Leading the way as Professor X, Jame McAvoy proves his ability to demand center stage. His has the ability to deliver strong performance and ground his characters so the audience accepts him such as his roles in Becoming Jane, Atonement and Last King of Scotland. Playing his soon to be enemy of Magneto is Micheal Fassbender. Now I must admit i am highly critical of Britsh Actors, mostly due to one going to play Superman, but because of Micheal, I have more of a tolerance and acceptance with them. They are trained actors who do it for the art rather then the fame. This shows in all of Micheal’s work, from 300 to Jane Eyre to Inglorious Basterds and more. Micheal brings a light into a dark, complex character, something we have only seen glimpses of in the comics. Magneto is not all bad, as later in the comic book world he fights for good after Charles disappears and becomes the X-Men leader. Fassbender’s performance is not campy, cheesey or unreal, its the opposite and having two young actors who ground their characters and make them human made this movie excellent. While i can go on more into the cast and their performances it would be redundant with praise. Having Kevin Bacon as a real, sadistic mad man as a villain (Sebastian Shaw) is a nice treat because he is a good solid actor. January Jones proves she is more then a pretty face and body as someone who is very cold, and then there’s Jennifer Lawrence, who was nominated for an Oscar. She plays Mystique. She is a real talent and there is a reason she takes movies like Winters Bone and The Beaver, because she can act, and while she’s playing a comic book character, she acts the role perfectly of a youth wanting so much to fit in and be normal. I leave this post having words of regret, i said “this will be the worst X-Men movie, worst comic book movie ever”. I was wrong. I was suprised how having an excellent cast, an agressive story/script and a very giving director made me change my mind and i must confess this is my faveorite X-Men movie, and it holds it own. I would like them to continue on this story line and see where it may go, as it was very genuine. Go check it out on a cheap Tuesday or if you’re in the mood to have a popcorn movie, because this doesn’t disappoint. 3 1/2 Superman out of 5 check out real reviews @ fyi-review.com
