Back in 1999 Steve Martin wrote screenplay for a movie called Bowfinger. The film was about a low budget movie producer who couldn't afford to pay an A-level movie star, but who decided to make a movie anyway without the star's knowledge. The plan was to craft a script so that the star could be filmed in public places without his knowledge, and the footage stitched together to make a movie. What was a hilarious comedy in 1999, is sadly what passes for moviemaking in 2016 in the form of Jason Bourne. The basic premise that is Nicky hasn't stayed off-grid and is now mixed up with Wikileaks style hackers. The CIA finds out, and she runs to Bourne for help. The premise is so stupid that even Bourne scolds her for not staying under the radar. The CIA of course thinks that they are working together, and orders them killed only to have Bourne discover that the circumstances of his recruitment into the CIA were a lie. Jason Bourne is two hours of complete nonsense, with shots of Matt Damon grimly walking left down a European street without saying a word, followed by more shots of him walking right down the street also without saying a word. While the media was joking that Damon had only 25 lines of dialogue, this is indeed a movie that could have been shot without Damon's knowledge if the producers could have caught him on vacation in Europe. People who actually jump in their cars and drive to a movie theatre deserve better than a parody of a 1999 comedy. They deserve a script with actual characters interacting, and they deserve actors who are at least mildly embarrassed at being associated with this paper thin excuse for entertainment. Wait until you can stream this, because it most certainly isn't worth going out for.
