An outdoor screening of videos, submitted by the public and films by artists that capture some of the most bizarre, surprising and astounding encounters with nature!

Walter Phillips Gallery and TRUCK Contemporary Art present an outdoor screening of videos, submitted by the public and films by artists that capture some of the most bizarre, surprising and astounding encounters with nature! The outdoor screening will take place with The CAMPER (Contemporary Art Mobile Public Exhibition Rig), a vintage motor-home, modified to become a mobile art space will be deployed across the province for regional locus’ of programming. Employees of Parks Canada will also take part by sharing some of their favorite encounters with nature and wildlife, reminding us how to handle ourselves safely in a National Park.

SUBMISSIONS
Submission Deadlines: July 4, 10:00 pm

Submit your outrageous nature videos, shot by yourself or a viral favourite, that have an element of a surprise, amazement or a peculiar encounter, to be considered for the public screening, alongside videos by artists such as Stefan St-Laurent’s Please Feed the Animals (2013). Video will be selected by a jury of Banff community members, Parks Canada and Banff Centre staff. Dumbfounded by Nature will take place in Banff’s Central Park on Saturday July 26 9:00 pm.

TRUCK’s CAMPER (Contemporary Art Mobile Public Exhibition Rig) will act as the stage for the event. Prizes will be awarded for the most Dumbfounding original submission. Submissions can be sent as Youtube links to walter_phillipsgallery@banffcentre.ca

TRUCK Contemporary Art in Calgary is a non-profit artist-run centre dedicated to the development and public presentation of contemporary art. Their CAMPER projects aims to investigate the places where art, the road, education and recreation meet, in order to explore these intersections in an inclusive, participation-oriented manner that fosters public engagement and appreciation of contemporary art practices.
