When people on the Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) began setting up tents and building barricades, ten Ukrainian filmmakers formed a creative group #BABYLON'13, which became a cinematograph of the civil protest on Maidan.
As a result, over 170 movies and over 1,000 hours of documented spectacular events of the past year were created. This work attracted the attention of a large audience of over 5.5 million views and more than 30 000 people on the Internet. International channels, including CNN, AlJazzera, ITN and others broadcasted these movies, allowing the formation of a civil society in Ukraine to enter the consciousness of the international community.
"Stronger than Arms", a full length documentary from #BABYLON'13 from January 22 in the cinemas of Ukraine and the world. "Stronger than Arms" shows the evolution of Ukrainian realities starting from spontaneous attempts to capture the Presidential Administration on December 1, 2013 to bloody combats in the ruins of Donetsk airport. It allows the viewer to re-experience the exaltation and despair both of the revolutionist Maidan (the central square in Kyiv), and the war in eastern Ukraine.
Now Calgary also has an opportunity to watch this piece of history and recollect, and maybe learn something new about Ukraine's revolution of dignity.
We will have two screenings: One in the Globe on the 25th of April, with a discussion afterwards. The second screening is in the Ukrainian Youth Centre - Domivka on the 26th of April. If we are lucky, we will have a chance to Skype with some voluntary soldiers and volunteers who help them. You have been helping these guys with your generous donations too!
The event is FREE, but donations are welcome to support Ukraine.
