What IS CalgaryMovies.com?
You're sitting at home (or - sshhh - at work) and you're in the mood for a movie. You don't
know what's playing, and you can't find a newspaper. And hey, who wants
to wait through the long, drawn-out messages theatres leave on their
machines?
So what to do? Start up the first Calgary-based web site dedicated to people like
you, people who would find information a lot easier if all the
local movie listings and reviews were just a click away on the web -
everything from Hollywood hits to locally-produced independent productions.
With truly comprehensive movie listings & information, as well as
theatre info, family-friendly movie listings, reviews from people like
YOU and a whole section devoted to the local scene,
you're only 2 clicks away from all the movie
information you want... and you gotta love that!
How did the site originate?
The site was born pretty much out of frustration, actually. It became a
bit tiresome to call up movie theatres and have to sit and wait while
the entire list of movies and their showtimes was dictated, and trying
to find a newspaper whenever we wanted to see what was playing was
tougher than it would seem. So we thought, "Hey - why not put it all on
the web and make it both painless and fun to get movie information?" The
concept had been tried in other cities, but we wanted to take it to a
new & better level. So, in the fall of 1998 we hung up our sign and
began operation as the first online movie guide for Calgary -
others have come since (and some have come & left since), but we're
still around and we're still your favourite!
The hope is that
all Calgarians will use this site any time they're interested in checking out a
movie and will spread the URL to all their friends - hopefully making the site one of Calgary's most useful, if not just-plain
grooviest, web resources in the process!
How often is the site updated?
At the bare mimimum, every Friday morning new movie listings will
be added to the site. Throughout the week, however, we also update the
site to include more external URLs, viewer-submitted movie reviews, coming-soon movies, columns and DVD reviews.
